Shore ratings measure the hardness of caster wheel materials on standardized durometer scales. The Shore A scale applies to softer materials like rubber, while Shore D is used for harder compounds like rigid plastics and firm polyurethane. The higher the number (0-100), the harder the material.

For example, a Shore D60 wheel offers medium-hard performance with a balance of durability and floor protection. This hardness rating directly impacts performance: harder wheels roll more easily under heavy loads but generate more noise and provide less shock absorption, while softer wheels offer better grip, floor protection and quieter operation but may wear faster and require more force to move.
